Company Stew

2 pounds beef stew meat
1 (4 1/2-ounce) jar sliced mushrooms, drained
1 medium onion, sliced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 (10 3/4-ounce) can tomato soup
1/2 cup dry white wine or water
1 to 2 tablespoons flour
1/3 cup water
Cooked rice

Combine meat, mushrooms, onion, salt, pepper, soup and

wine in an ovenproof glass casserole
Cover and bake at 300, 3 hours
Transfer from oven to stove top
To thicken, mix flour and water and stir into stew
Simmer 5-10 minutes over medium heat
Serve over rice
Makes 6 to 8 servings
