BREAD SPREADS

Use fresh or old Italian or French bread. Cut bread into slices, place on a cookie sheet and place under broiler in oven. Brown only one side. Remove from oven and spread un-toasted side with one of the following spreads.

 

CHEESE SPREAD:

 

1/4 c. grated cheese
2 tbsp. grated onion
1/2 c. mayonnaise
1/4 tsp. white pepper

 

Mix well and spread. Return to boiler until lightly brown.

 

BUTTER AND CHIVES:

 

1/2 c. soft butter
Garlic powder to taste
1/4 c. chopped chives

 

Mix well, and spread. Return to boiler until lightly brown.

 

CONNIE'S FAVORITE:

 

1/4 c. olive oil
1/4 c. chopped parsley
Lots of fresh ground black pepper
1/4 c. butter, melted
Garlic powder to taste

 

Mix well, and spread. Return to boiler until lightly brown.

 

HERB SPREAD:

 

1/4 c. butter
1/2 tsp. chicken flavored instant bouillon
1/2 tsp. rosemary
1/4 c. olive oil
1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/2 tsp. sage

 

In small skillet melt butter, add oil and mix in instant bouillon. Add remaining seasoning and blend well. Lightly dip un-toasted side of bread in skillet. Return bread to oven and bake at 350 degrees until lightly brown.
