Baby Rowan
I wasn't able to click on the form to send a prayer for Rowan, but I do. There have been many premies in my family, going back to my uncle in the early 1900s. He was about that tiny and his mom kept him in a shoebox next to the woodburning stove. He lived a long life.
My oldest & youngest sisters were also born early, in a time before there was a neo-natal unit. They're still around too. Many prayers from me going to Rowan and his family. Thanks for sending me this Kat.

Just brings back a lot of memories! My wife, Debbie, worked in the Neo-Natal Intnsive care unit at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. The babies there recieved more love and care from the nurses than I've ever seen! Rowan is in good hands, with parental love showeing him continually, nurses do becme attatched, even thouh they're told not to. The there are all the prayers being said for Rowan, and of course his entire family! You can be assured, there is a family in Salisbury North Carolina, lifting you all up to God. That's where the power is! What a Mighty God we serve!

My daughter gave birth to boy/girl twins at 24 1/2 weeks! Each weighed around 1 lb. 12 oz. The little boy, Richard, didn't make it but Katelyn will be 11 years old on Christmas Day 2002 and is perfect and beautiful in every way. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for Rowan's full recovery. I work in a hospital in southern California and it is one of the few in the area that has an amazing NICU. Good luck Rowan! Just to give you extra hope, my son was also born almost three months early - in 1967! He was a tiny little thing - my wedding ring fit over his arm! I'm a member of one of Mario's email lists, as well as a new mother (July 31st). Despite being a journalist by profession, I don't have the words to tell you how much y'all and little Rowan will be in my thoughts and prayers. I have found that my daughter is the most awe-inspiring thing I've ever been allowed to experience, but being a parent is also the most terrifying thing I'll ever do, too. Rowan's mom and I are overwhelmed by the good wishes and prayers that we've received from friends and family. It is truly special and inspirational to read the heartfelt prayers of people who have never met us yet seem to care so much for our son's wellbeing. For the time being Rowan continues doing well: he is still off of the ventilator and has finally begun to grow at an appreciable rate of about 1 ounce every 2 days. He now weighs 1 lb, 11 oz. We truly believe that all of the prayers and wishes we have received have helped him stay strong and carry on. For my part, I am inspired by the remarkable kindness of strangers that is demonstrated here. Thanks you all and thank you Kat for doing this for us. Best wishes to all, Alex. i will keep this little guy in my prayers. i had a daughter born with the same weight and height on april 30, 1995. she lived nine days and fought hard. she had hole in her small intentine and they operated on her, which she did survive, then i was told they accidently touched her liver and she was bleeding. we had to take her off the machines. so rowan grow up strong for me and nikki. you are in my heart. cheryl

Hello Everybody. I'm Rowan's uncle, Mario, and I wanted to give everyone an update. As of January 15th Rowan is weighing in at 5 lbs 1 oz. He will be able to come home as soon as he can finish a bottle with every feed. We expect he will be coming home sometime next week, but right now it all depends on that bottle-feeding. I want to thank everyone for their moral and spiritual support. It has been (and continues to be) a long road for Rowan's family, and it's been very heartening to have had so many hopes and prayers from so many wonderful people around the world. We will be sure to preserve this to make sure that Rowan sees it and knows how many people have been here for him. Our deepest and sincerest thanks!

I am glade that your baby is home!! My brother has just became a dad and his little girl was 7wks premmie it is sad to see as i just had a baby girl who was 7pound 8 oz and her little cousin was so tiny and the mother was not eating right she is very lucky to be alive they are all little fighters. With my neice its sad cause she is now in her grandmother's care (her dad's mum) as my neice's mother was not allowed to have her mainly from children services if my brother had not have had his concerns my little neice would have end'd up in a home. To all parents with premmie babies hang in there as they are all little fighters.

Hey Everybody: Rowan is doing very well, though he still gets very fussy at night. A recent audiology exam confirmed that he has fluid in his ears that is severely affecting his hearing, and the doctors want to drain that as soon as possible. I think pressure from the fluid might be causing him pain. Also, the upper palate cleft will probably be surgically closed in the next couple of months. I think things will improve greatly and he will be a much less fussy baby when all that is corrected. Thanks to everybody!

Hi Everybody, and thanks again for all the comments. I am happy to report that Rowan is doing very well. He is growing steadily, though he still seems small to me, especially compared to his cousin Simon, born full-term 19 days after Rowan, but all-in-all he is making good progress, and as the pictures attest, he is happy and healthy. We are working with him to help him catch up, and to finally learn his name. He wasn't able to hear it before so he hasn't learned it yet. Now that the fluid is drained from his ears, he is discovering a whole new world he never knew. Once again, as Rowan's uncle, I thank everyone on behalf of Rowan and his family.
