The Angel Flew Away

Her eyes were dozing, near his bed
The bed of which he lay
Slowly leaving her behind
 Maybe sometime today

Startled, her eyes opened wide
 She heard his beating heart
Her mind started to drift away
Back to the very start

She and him, both children
Playing in the yard
As they grew, their love
Hit them both very hard

 Never parting, never crying
She knew he was her choice
 Her memories were interrupted then
By the loudest, highest noise

Her eyes blinked open and gazed
At the bed at which he lay
She saw him jump and tremble
 She wanted him to stay

To her feet she rose
Screaming for dear life
She couldn't let him leave
She was to be his wife

No one came to the room
So she knelt and kissed his cheek
 That's when his eyes opened
And she began to speak

'Leave me not, I love you
 Please don't slip away
I need you now, forever
I need you every day'

But the machine sirened
And the nurses came
She backed away
Felt not the same

 Looking through a window
Is what it seemed to her
Everything going on
 Was a messy blur

A softer figure formed
 And hovered over his head
Until the nurses cried
 That he was surely dead

The figure was an angel
She wouldn't let him stay
She grabbed onto his hand
 And the angel flew away
